By
Thomas A. Beitz, Canine Behavior Specialist and Dog Trainer
The
remote training collar, the e-collar or what is commonly referred to as the shock collar is one of the most misunderstood training tools on the

don’t understand. The purpose of this article is to explain at least in part, how a shock collar can actually be used to train a dog safely and

Remote collar training saved my dog from danger.
Dear Jabula,
Two weeks ago while we were doing our morning jaunt, Blaze looked up hard, I
thought she was getting ready to have a great time after a herd of deer. She had spotted a coyote about 50 feet to our right and she was several feet
in front of me off leash. I have heard terrible stories about coyote luring dogs off and killing them. This particular animal was not afraid and just
sauntered along.

Do You know how to keep your dog safe for the 4th of July??
Article obtained from the HSUS archives.
WASHINGTON— For most people, fireworks displays
are an essential part of celebrating the 4th of July. But The HSUS reminds people that their pets may find the noise and commotion of the holiday
distressing.
Nancy Peterson, HSUS companion animals issues specialist,
warns, “Animals may become so frightened by the loud ‘cracks’ and ‘booms’ of fireworks that they bolt and run away.
In an attempt to find refuge from the noise and lights, pets may become lost. That’s why we recommend that people provide their pets with a
safe and quiet place indoors away from the holiday celebrations.

Statistics show that a greater than average number of dogs are lost on
the Fourth of July. Don't let your dog become a statistic.
The HSUS strongly
encourages people to take the precautions to protect pets during 4th of July festivities:
