Search & Scent Training

Search and scent training is a fun activity for all dogs of all ages. We use their natural ability to seek out and find resources. Putting that natural ability to use can provide much needed mental stimulation. Teaching a dog to look for and find a particular scent can keep an active dog busy in any environment. We also use scent work training to build confidence in a shy dog. Scent work may be done in a variety of environments so it makes for a great family activity on a rainy day when you need to stimulate your dog without much time outside.

We offer training in search and scent work in three levels:
Level 1 teaches the dogs how to search for a primary reward. This level introduces the dogs to the concept of using their noses to guide them to a reward.
Level 2 uses the dogs natural ability to problem solve. These challenges are mastered in order to locate the primary reward.
Level 3 introduces the dogs to a specific odor and works through exercises designed to build the dogs understanding of seeking out a specific scent.

A handler and dog team are welcome to take the same level multiple times if they wish. You do not have to move on to another level if you chose to work at the same level long term.
During class only one dog will work at a time. Other dogs are asked to wait in the car or in a kennel. This allows all dogs to participate whether they are friendly, fearful, or reactive around other dogs.

Each level runs for 6 weeks and the cost is $232.  No prior training is required, dogs must be up to date on shots, including Bordetella.
