Kim Dowis

After years of Kate and Gill asking Kim to join them here at Jabula, we were very excited to officially welcome Kim Dowis to the Jabula Team of trainers!

Kim graduated from University of Georgia with a BS in Biology where she studied ethology (animal behavior) and neurobiology. She became interested in pet behavior and dog training in 1994 when she adopted Rikki, an extremely fearful mix breed puppy. After training and socialization, Rikki was able to compete at the Masters level in AKC and USDAA dog agility events. Together they traveled to California, Colorado, and Texas to compete in large national events and locally they competed in obedience and agility. She has competed in agility since 1996 with several different breeds and sizes of dogs.

In 2005, Kim began competing in Disc Dog events with border collies Nimble, Remedy, and Kate (owned by Jan Reid). By 2007 she was a GADDC argus cup finalist and most improved player.  Most recently she and her special boy Remedy were featured on Purina’s Incredible Dog Challenge placing 3rd in the eastern regional large dog agility as well as winning Novice Reserve in herding from the GSDA. Kim has competed in dock dog diving and AKC obedience events.

Although Kim’s main area of interest in pet training is dog sports, which involves a good foundation in basic obedience,  positive, motivating training methods have allowed her to train not only dogs, but cats, fish and even a mouse to perform numerous tricks or tasks. Her approach to training makes for happier, challenged dogs and better, well-rounded household companions. Kim is skilled in the many areas of training including puppies and fearful or anxious dogs. With Kim, even your old dog can learn new tricks!

Join her for one of the many group classes she teaches, for private lessons here at our Avondale location or in your own home.
